“How to Get Things Accomplished in Your Life – Lesson #2”

Okay, so we started a new study on “How to Get Things Accomplished in Your Life”. And the subtopic is: “How to Get More Accomplished in Your Life”.

So, on last time we looked at the graphic at the top of p. # 2 on the graphic, titled, “Accomplishment Avenue”. So, let’s start off there on this evening.

Okay, you must pay close attention. So, we said that there are “two” ways to get things “accomplished”, or to get “more” accomplished:

1). The Easy Way- To utilize God’s strength, power, and wisdom.

2). The Hard Way- To exercise your strength, power, determination, and best thinking.

Now, notice something Isaiah says (included in this graphic), which is so very important.

1). Isaiah 30:21- And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.

*** And note that the man is “walking” down “Accomplishment Avenue”.

QUESTION: Now really think about this before you answer. Why do you think that this man is “walking”?

***** I asked this because, this is something that is mentioned, over and over in the bible.

And since that is the case, we must assume that it’s very important. We must understand what it means, because it’s located throughout the entire bible.

Okay Mount Pisgah, let me play the devil’s advocate: Why is the man not “running”? You’ve heard the old saying, “I’ve been running for Jesus for a long time, and I haven’t got tired yet”. Okay, now let’s make this a personal thing.

If this is a picture of you (if this man represents and depicts you/us); why are you not “running for the Lord?

QUESTION: Has God been good to anyone here? Then why are you not “running” for Him? If this represents you (which it does), and God has been extremely good to you, then why would you only “walk” (stroll) for Him?

     After all God did say:

1). I Corinthians 9:24- Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.

    2). Isaiah 40:31a- But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary;

Now, what you will find throughout the bible, is that God instructs man, to do three different things, when it comes to “accomplishing things for Him.  And at various times, these three may overlap. These three, can best be explained and described, as levels:

          1). Level 1- Stand (still)-

*** QUESTION: Was there ever a time in your life, when you had no choice but to stand still? You had done all that you could think to do. And your only option was to wait on God.

a). Exodus 14:13a- And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord,

          2). Level 2- Walk-

b). II Corinthians 5:7- (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

          3). Level 3- Run-

c). Hebrews 12:1b- “…..and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Now, all three are important. They mainly indicate three different levels of spiritual growth.

TONIGHTS MAIN TAKEAWAY: You must figure outwhich level you are on,and be mindful of the next level that you will need to move to.

*** MAIN APPLICATION: You must make a commitment, be committed, to going to the next spiritual level, and commit to doing the things that it will take to get to that level.

  • Level 1- Stand still; be still-

When you “stand” or “stand still/be still”, the indication, on level 1, is that God is having to do most of, or a whole lot of the work for you. This indicates, that you’re in the process of learning how to “trust” both God, and His promises.

a). Exodus 14:10-13- 10 And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were sore afraid: and the children of Israel cried out unto the Lord. 11 And they said unto Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt? 12 Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness. 13 And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.

These people, were not at the spiritual level, where they could simply “trust” God for what He had said.  They needed to “see” what God could do, before they would “believe” what He would do. Basically, they needed to see a miracle!!!! They needed something to go along with His word.

b). Psalm 46:10- Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

Jesus’ disciples, in their faith formative days, while on level 1, also needed to “see” something!

This is very common for level 1. Why? Because “at each level, you find a different devil”.

MAJOR PROBLEM: Sometimes we move to level 2, and still think that we’re fighting a level 1 demon(s). That is a huge problem!!!

     Okay, again, notice Jesus’ disciples:

c). John 14:8-12- Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us.

You certainly should “believe” in miracles, but you should “trust” the bible. Notice Jesus’ response! He wanted them to move from “seeing” to “believing”.

***** He waspreparing them for, the same thing that He is preparing you for, a spiritual upgrade!!!

Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father? 10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. 11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake. 12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

God wants to move us from always needing to “see” Him move, to the point that we know and “believe” that He is (and have) already moved.

So, Jesus proceeds to tell them exactly how this should look:

13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

  • Level 2- Walk

Now, level # 2, indicates maturity. This is where most of us find ourselves. You no longer have to have daily, weekly, or monthly miracles to occur. You no longer have to “see” to “believe”.

On level 2, you have grown, and are growing, to the point, where you now walk by faith and not by sight.

1). II Corinthians 5:7- (For we walk by faith, not by sight:).

On this level, you not only believe that God has “power”. But you also believe that He has given you some “power”.

2). John 1:12- But as many as received him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

3). Luke 10:19- Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

True miracles will happen every-once-in-a-while! Jesus performed approximately 38 miracles, in three years!!! That is approximately 12 miracles a year.

But the instructions for us to “walk”. This particular word is found 212 times in the bible. And roots of this word (walked, walketh, walking, walkest, walkedst), are found an additional 201 times. Making a grand total of 413 times. There is no way that this can be overlooked, in comparison to miracles.

As far as a measurement of maturity, (level 1 compared to level 2), what you have is this:

                                          MIRACLES vs. MATURITY

                                                   (sight vs. faith)

People on level 2, believe that God can, and still does, perform miracles. But they primarly trust in the “word of God”, and its multitude of “promises”.

4). Psalm 23:4- Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

QUESTION: ___ Yes   ___ No   Has anyone here ever had to walk through a dark valley? Mature believers have had to walk thru many dark valleys.

5). Galatians 5:16- This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

This is the response that you can expect of a mature believer. They may fall down while walking, but their faith in God,will motivate them to get back up.

a). Proverbs 24:16a- For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again:

6). Micha 6:8- He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God

7). Deuteronomy 8:6- Therefore thou shalt keep the commandments of the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him.

          8). Colossians 1:10- That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

9). Ephesians 2:10- For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

10). II Chronicles 7:17-18- 17 And as for thee, if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, and do according to all that I have commanded thee, and shalt observe my statutes and my judgments; 18 Then will I stablish the throne of thy kingdom, according as I have covenanted with David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man to be ruler in Israel.

11). I John 2:6- He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

  • Level 3- Run

A Christian who is “walking”, has committed himself to knowing and growing.

The one who is “running”, has finally presented his body (life) as a living sacrifice. And this is not an easy thing to do.

1). Romans 12:1- I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

It takes many years of walking with God to get to this level. This is the person who is 100% sold out to God. They have experienced so much pain, grief, and sorry, that they have finally and fully arrived to the conclusion, that they must “totally” depend and rest on/in God

2). I Corinthians 9:24- Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.

3). Hebrews 12:1- Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

BOTTOM LINE: You must make a commitment to get to the next spiritual level in your life.
