“Are You A Servant; Or Something Else?”

Good afternoon Mount Pisgah! At all times we must consider how God views us, and His relationship towards us. At times we can have an erroneous concept of our TRUE IDENTY!

So, what I want to do with lesson # 7, is to reveals God’s heart, in relationship to His children.

So, we will look at Matthew 25:21; 23; 26-

(vs. 21)- His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

(vs. 23)- His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

(vs. 26)- His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:

QUESTION TO CONSIDER: “Are You A Servant; ……Or Something Else?”

In this story, we have one man, doing the talking, and “three” men, that are being spoken to!!

The speaker, is called “lord” (or you could say master). The individuals that are being spoken to, are referred to as “servants”.

Now these three servants, could very well be any one of us!!!! And again the question that you really need to think on is: “Are You A Servant; ……Or Something Else?”

So, let’s note three things/points Mount: The first thing that we shall take a look at is:

I. A Servant

First, let’s look at something good. It’s okay to be a servant. But there are some “problems” that accompanies servanthood!!!!

A true “servant”, has very few rights!…….. And by him being a servant, his lord, or master, can “unfairly” punish him; and “grossly” mistreat him, if he so chooses. Why? Because he is a servant!

Notice what this lord does with one of these “servants”:

1). Matthew 25:30- And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

So, since that is possible, you would be forced to wonder, if there is possibly a “step above” being a servant?

So secondly, let’s consider:

II. A Sidekick

We looked at something “good”. Now, let’s look at something “better”. THESE ARE THE WORDS OF JESUS!!!:

1). John 15:15- Henceforth I call you “not” servants;………..for the servant knoweth not what his lord (or master) doeth: but I have “called” you friends (sidekicks);…………for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

A “friend” or a “sidekick”, is a step above a “servant”!

Imagine, the Lord, the God of heaven, not calling you a “servant”, but calling you a “friend”!!! So now you must ask the question: ……… Does God still have friends,. and are you one of them?

2). James 2:23- And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham “believedGod, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

Abraham, and the 12 disciples, were both called “friends”, not “servants”! Why? Well Jesus said it Himself: for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth”.

*** You do know that “friends” spend time together.

**** Is it possible, that God has a whole lot of servants, but very few friends???

So, we noted something good, A Servant. We also noted something better, A Sidekick.

Now, third and finally, let’s look at the superlative, the Best of all:

III. A SON (A step above both a servant and a sidekick).

1). John 1:12- But as many as receivedhim, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

Now we have to ask, is there a step above “friendship” (being a sidekick), Yes!!! Exactly what would that be? “Sonship”!!!……….

QUESTION TO PONDER: In anormal relationship, under normal circumstances, would a “parent”, do more for their son’s “friends”, or more for their very own “son”?

2). Galatians 4:7- Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

***** A son can receive, “all” that his father has!!! Even when he messes up. For proof you can look at the story of the PRODIGAL….”SON” in

Whereas a servant, or a sidekick, can only “get”, what his master choose to give him!!!
